What is pure slippery elm powder?

Slippery Elm Bark powder is a ‘mucilaginous’ gel like substance which has a soothing effect on the digestive system and may help to soothe an irritated or unsettled stomach and gastrointestinal tract, heartburn and reflux. Slippery Elm is considered a bulk laxative as the mucilage absorbs water. The result of this is it swells in the intestine, helping to initiate a bowel movement.

Who is Slippery Elm Powder for?

For anyone with symptoms associated with inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

May be helpful for treating occasional heartburn, also known as acid reflux.

To soothe a cough and sore throat, can be made into lozengers with high grade manuka honey.

In healing salves for wounds, boils, ulcers, burns, and skin inflammation.

Suggested Use:

Mix 5g into smoothie with plant amino acid powder.

Or, 2g up to four times daily mixed with 1/2 cup of water.

Or as a lozenges to soothe a sore throat.

Slippery Elm Cough Drops Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup slippery elm bark powder

4-6 Tablespoons of raw honey or manuka honey

1 teaspoon organic ground cinnamon

Method

Place slippery elm bark powder in a bowl. Add the cinnamon and four tablespoons of honey and stir to combine. If honey is somewhat hard, gently warm before adding to the slippery elm powder so that it is easier to stir.

If the mix won’t form a thick dough, add the extra 2 tablespoons of honey.

Take small portions of the mixture (about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon) and roll into balls.

Place the balls on wax paper or cookie sheet.

Leave the lozenges to dry for at least 24 hours. You may need to leave them slightly longer if you live in a damp climate.

Wrap cough drops in small squares of wax paper, or store unwrapped in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks.

Makes approximately 36 throat lozenges.

CAUTION: Not recommended to take during pregnancy.
