Slippery Elm Liquid Extract
Traditionally used for gastritis, peptic ulcer (taken before meals), gastro-oesophageal reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, diverticulitis and intestinal inflammation, Slippery Elm Liquid Herb Extract really is a wonder herb!
Slippery Elm is a tree known for it’s dark brown to black bark and combats heartburn, GERD and other bowel and gastro disorders.
I wanted to use this blog to discuss Slippery Elm because over the holidays I had a few patients reach out for help with heartburn. With an increase of alcohol and certain foods over Christmas, it makes sense that some would experience an onset of heartburn or other gastro-like symptoms, and when this happens the first thing I start with is Slippery Elm Liquid Herb Extract.
Millions of people suffer from Gasto disorders and diseases which occur when the muscle at the end of the esophagus doesn’t close properly which allows the stomach contents to leak back into the esophagus. This leakage causes a burning sensation, which is caused by the reflux of the acid. This is a very serious problem that leads to complications if it is not taken care of. Slippery Elm prevents irritation by coating the esophagus with mucilage and instantly eases any sensations of burning and irritation. Perfect for sore throats caused by tonsillitis, a cold, a cough or laryngitis, it is a very effective remedy for asthma and treats a range of upper respiratory ailments like bronchitis. The high mucilage content also makes it an effective remedy for constipation.
So we’ve heard about how powerful it is on the inside, but Slippery Elm also works wonders on the outside as well. When it comes to skin irritations, rashes, itching, dermatitis of any kind that causes red, irritated and inflamed skin, Slippery Elm works to instantly soothe and reduce inflammation. The compounds of Slippery Elm also heal the tissues of wounds and boils and can even treat urinary tract inflammation and pain. Taken by powder, tea, tablet or my preferred method which is the Slippery Elm liquid herb extract.
