Migraine Liquid Herbal Extract

Karen Morris

We have a brand new herbal to the site, so for this week’s blog I would like to talk about our new Migraine Liquid Herbal Extract. Migraine herbal is a natural pain relief formula for management of migraine headaches and includes a blend of Feverfew, White Willow, Limeflowers and Jamaica Dogwood. Our herbs are carefully picked to ensure effective results that offer relief.

So how do you know if you have a migraine or a headache? According to Migraine and Headache Australia“Migraines are headaches that typically last from 4-72 hours and you may experience nausea and vomiting as well as sensitivity to light or sound. Migraine sufferers frequently report throbbing pain that worsens with normal activity”.

Migraines are currently affecting many of my patients, which is no surprise as according to www.painaustralia.org.au “20.55% of Australians suffer from migraine. Prevalence is higher for women, with 28.66% of women experiencing migraine compared to 11.96% of men (Institute for Health Metrics Evaluation (IHME), 2016)”. The study also goes on to say that 7.6% of Australian migraine sufferers experience a severe form of migraine known as chronic migraine, defined as 15 or more migraine days per month!

Migraines are associated with symptoms such as light sensitivity and nausea and typically last for hours or sometimes even days. For someone who suffers from frequent migraines it can impact social life, work life and general wellbeing.

One of our ingredients Feverfew, contains a substance called parthenolide which has been shown to prevent migraine attacks by reducing inflammation or by stopping the aggregation of platelets. White Willow can help eliminate migraines by lowering the blood pressure in the small capillaries and blood vessels in the head, easing pressure and relieving painful, debilitating symptoms. It can also be used as a preventive method for regular headaches.

We also use Limeflowers (Linden flowers) as these have been used for hundreds of years and treat issues like the throbbing that is associated with migraines, high blood pressure and shortness of breath. Limeflowers have also been highly regarded for improving sleep and helping with tension and anxiety. We use Jamaica (also know as Jamaican) Dogwood as a traditional remedy for treating nerve pain, menstrual cramps, migraine, insomnia, anxiety, fear, and nervous tension.

How to Reduce Symptoms of a Migraine

  1. Create a dark space
  2. Play some soft music
  3. Drink something calming, chamomile tea is a great choice
  4. Have some essential oils or a vaporizer to help with breathing and creating a calm space The Oil Garden Bamboo Ultrasonic Vaporiser is perfect for this.
  5. Place something over your eyes, a beaded weighted eye mask can help, place a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil on this and rest.

DOSE: Take 5ml up to four times DAILY

CAUTION: Jamaica dogwood has sedative effects, and may increase the effects of other drugs or herbs used for insomnia or anxiety (called central nervous system depressants).
