Herbs Online Shop’s 5 Easy Steps to Improve Wellbeing

By Karen Morris

This week I’d like to share some of my top tips on how to improve your overall health and wellbeing. These steps are designed to be easily applied, and easy to keep consistent in your life. Often we find it difficult to stick to diets that are rigid, exercise programs that are lengthy, or a new schedule with too much crammed into not enough time! The aim of this blog is to help you make small, consistent improvements in your day to day life, that add up to big changes over a week, month and year.

One Extra Hour of Sleep: Let’s start with sleep! If you are looking for a quick way to improve your mood – have a nap! Or, get to sleep one hour earlier. Sleep is vital to keeping our hormones stable and our mood regular. A lot of my clients drink too much caffeine to try and increase their energy levels and to combat a low mood, when all it takes to feel healthier and happier can sometimes be as simple as prioritising more sleep. Give it a go for 30 days and let me know how you feel.

Limit Social Media: If you’re spending even 10 minutes a day on social media, sometimes this can be enough to have you feeling down in the dumps. Social media has a lot of positives, but the negatives for many people far outweigh the positives. Limit social media to a few times a week and make a point of unfollowing or unsubscribing from any accounts that trigger feelings of “not good enough”.

Rest is Productive: For many people, switching off and relaxing can be very difficult because they find it hard to “justify” rest. This is common due to the level of conditioning we have been exposed to as a society to “work work work”. In reality, rest is critical to your wellbeing and overall level of health. Rest and relaxation – watching your favourite show, playing sports, playing board games or simply sitting at a cafe enjoying a coffee – can have a huge follow-on effect with your overall mood. Prioritise rest and relaxation for at least 30 minutes every day and see how you feel.

Improve your Nutrition: Diet directly impacts our mood because the food we eat is processed in our gut, and our gut speaks directly to our brain. If we are limited in certain nutrients we feel moody, fatigued, emotional and even depressed. Prioritise eating leafy greens, an abundance of vegetables and limit processed foods for an instant increase in happy hormones!

Track your Hydration: Clean water is critical to your health, most of my clients do not drink enough water. I suggest tracking your intake to help keep score of just how much you are actually drinking. Water flushes toxins, keeps your organs working efficiently and prevents migraines and headaches. Make water a key focus in your life for the next 30 days and let me know how you go. If you find the intake has you running to the loo too much, squeeze some lemon, lime or a splash of apple cider vinegar into the water so it takes your body longer to digest – it’s a great trick that really works!
